The children in year 6 have produced novels. This is seen as a rite of passage at The Academy, moving away from 11+ exam preparation to a new time of personal creativity. Pupils reflect on their own favourite novels, think about which genres tempt them, are taught how to plan a narrative arc and to consider using a prologue and an epilogue; they include an author's page about themselves, illustrations, work on the cover and imagine potential sequels. The year 6 pupils (pictured above) enjoy a launch party to toast their success! We are also very proud to announce that our English teacher, Emily, had her first novel published this week. Fault Lines, is available from Waterstones, Daunts and all good bookshops as well as Amazon (hyperlink attached).
